July 2020 : My trip to Brittany took me to the charming town of Auray and the prehistoric wonder of Carnac, two destinations that offer a rich contrast of history and natural beauty.

Auray’s old port, Saint-Goustan, feels like stepping into a painting. With its narrow, cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, and scenic harbor, it’s easy to get lost in its beauty. I strolled along the waterfront, where old fishing boats bobbed in the river, and enjoyed the serene atmosphere. The winding streets of the town are full of quaint cafés, art galleries, and boutiques, each corner offering something new to discover. The charm of Auray lies in its authenticity; it’s a place where history and daily life blend seamlessly.

A short drive away, Carnac presents a completely different kind of magic—one that stretches back thousands of years. The Carnac Stones, an extensive collection of over 3,000 prehistoric standing stones, are one of the world’s most impressive Neolithic sites. Walking among these ancient megaliths, I couldn’t help but wonder about the mysteries they hold. Some stones form long, straight rows that seem to stretch endlessly, while others stand in isolated clusters, each one with its own aura of mystery. The vastness of the site and the weight of its history make it a humbling experience, a reminder of the deep roots of human civilization.

Auray and Carnac together create a perfect blend of serene beauty and ancient intrigue. Whether you’re captivated by the charm of a small French town or fascinated by prehistoric history, this corner of Brittany has something magical to offer.
